Who Was John McCarthy?
John McCarthy (1927–2011) was an American computer scientist often called a father of AI. He coined the term “artificial intelligence” in 1955, organized the 1956 Dartmouth conference, created the LISP programming language, and championed symbolic, logic-based approaches to machine intelligence. He received the Turing Award in 1971.
