What Is the Turing Test?
The Turing test, proposed by Alan Turing in 1950, is a way of asking whether a machine can think by testing whether it can converse so convincingly that a human judge cannot reliably tell it from a person. It reframed an abstract question as a practical one and remains a touchstone in debates about machine intelligence.
