What Is a Large Language Model (LLM)?

A large language model (LLM) is a neural network trained on very large amounts of text to predict the next piece of a sequence. By learning statistical patterns in language, it can generate fluent text, answer questions, translate, and write code. LLMs are the technology behind assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
