What Is an ROC Curve?

An ROC curve, or receiver operating characteristic curve, plots the true positive rate against the false positive rate as the classification threshold varies. It shows the tradeoff between correctly identifying positives and mistakenly flagging negatives. The area under this curve, known as AUC, summarizes overall performance.
